Billiard Room

The Billiard Room

The billiard room is where the billiards table is traditionally placed. The term was first coined by well-off families that had large mansions and rooms for every activity. Still, a billiard table takes up a good portion of any room, and almost needs its own room, even in our modern times. Most of the places that now house billiards tables are bars or other such public places, where they have several tables all in one big room.

A billiard room has to be large enough so that you can hit the cue ball from any angle and station around the table. This usually means having at least 8 feet of free space all around the table. For a 7 foot table, this means having a room that is at least 15 feet by 19 feet. Bigger tables need bigger rooms. This can be quite difficult to arrange in a modern home without placing the table in your living room. Of course, there are many game rooms and basements that are bigger than that; however, many people like to put other things in with their billiard table.

Consequently, many don't leave enough room around their table to make the playing of a game possible. In a billiard hall, sometimes there is enough room around the tables to play properly, but often there is not. Some places place the tables so close together that if someone else is playing at an adjacent billiard pool table, then the two people bump into each other. This is very inconvenient, but it is still possible to play that way. Proper billiard lighting is also an important aspect for the billiards room and most upscale bars and billiard club venues do provide good, over-the-table billiard lights.

When decorating a billiard room, many people choose to go for the dark, pub style look. Most bars are already decorated that way, but some of them are decorated more in a style that goes along with motorcycles or other such styles. The pub style is popular because it reminds people of the way that billiard pool is played in England. Hunting, billiards and beer all seem to go together. The decoration for this style is usually dark colors, such as hunter green or navy, with dark wood paneling. Sometimes, pictures of dogs or hunting scenes are placed on the walls. Of course, the main event in such places is the billiard game, so people usually don't care too much about the decorative style. Overhead lighting is used a lot in billiard halls, as well as wall mounted lighting. The way that the billiard hall is decorated can have a big impact on the kind of people that hang out there.

The billiard room is an important place for many people. Playing at home can be very fun, if someone owns a table, and playing at a bar or billiard club can also be fun. For proper play of the game, the room should be quite large so that the shots can be made easily. The decoration of the room will determine what kind of people come to it, and how they will act, so that is important as well.
