Billiard Table

Tips For Buying A Billiard Table

Before you buy a billiard table, you need to identify a few critical parameters. First of all, why are you buying a billiards table? Is it for a family games room, or for practicing as a professional? The second parameter is the budget you have earmarked for the table and other billiard accessories. A good table can be quite expensive. The third parameter is the room where it will be placed. There are many other criteria that will influence your purchase, but these three are the most important.

Billiard tables for the family game room are different than those for professional use. If you are looking for a table for home play, then you should not have too much trouble finding a good, relatively inexpensive table in a reputable retail establishment. However, if the billiards table is meant to help you prepare for serious competitive events, then you need to buy one that is endorsed by the BCA, or the Billiard Congress of America.

This governing body is headquartered in Colorado and dictates the terms of the billiard industry. A good quality table means spending more money, which brings you to the second critical parameter; your budget. For an average billiard pool table, a budget of $500-5,000 US is reasonable. Yet, for a real professional table, be prepared to spend about $5,000-15,000 US.

The last of the critical factors when choosing your billiard table is the available space you have, keeping in mind that a billiards table should be placed in the middle of the room, with ample space all around. There are four sizes of tables to choose from: 39"x 78" or 7 foot, 44"x 88" or 8 foot, 46"x 92" or 8 foot oversized and lastly, 50"x 100" or 9 foot table. Once you have placed your table, there should be enough space for maneuvering the cue stick and the movement of the many players. As you can see the space you have available will dictate the size of the table you buy.

As you can see, there are three main factors that you should pay attention to before you purchase a billiard table. The three factors are your budget, the size of the room where you plan to keep it and the purpose for buying it. All these put together will guide you to the best billiards table possible. This is a serious purchase, yet once made, you can look forward to hours of family fun or professional practice in your billiards room, complete with billiard lighting and the proper billiard equipment.
