The World Snooker Championship
In the World Snooker Championship, the best players get together and compete to find the best snooker player in the world. Playing snooker takes great skill, and can be quite difficult to master. The championship is currently held at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield, England. To be a part of this championship, it is necessary to win at many other snooker challenges. The world championship is incredibly exciting to snooker players and fans alike.
There are 22 balls that are used in a snooker game. There are 15 reds, and the other 6 balls are all different colors. The red balls are all worth 1 point, and the other colors are worth more. Landing the balls in pockets wins points. The great snooker players are from China and Great Britain. The championship winner is awarded with a whole lot of money for his or her skills at snooker pool. The greatest player was Joe Davis, who won the World Snooker Championship many years in a row. There have been other great players since then, but none quite so good. The snooker championship began in 1927, but in some years the event wasn't held because of wartime restrictions.
The current snooker champion is Stephen Hendry and he is the number 1 ranked snooker player in the world. He has been a winner of the world championship in the past and will probably win again. One player, Ronnie O'Sullivan, was recently fined and docked points for making an inappropriate remark at one of the games during the China open. Even with these points docked from his score, he is still in the lead, yet loosing 700 points is a major blow to any player.
The term "snooker" originated with the invention of the game because the first players would play the game to "snooker" money out of other novice players. Someone who is good at pool and billiards would likely be good at snooker too, as accuracy and precision are necessary qualities to have for the game. It is necessary to be able to judge shots and angles, and playing well takes quite a bit of mathematical know how. Of course, even if you failed geometry you might still be able to play a snooker game, on snooker table, in a snooker room.
The World Snooker Championship is where the best snooker players display their skills and win cash. Since 1927, there have been many different championships, but not one every year. There have been many good snooker player activists, but since Joe Davis, there has never been anyone to win so many championships in a row. Snooker is a fun game that can be played by anyone, even if you never make it as a professional player and make it to the snooker championship.
